The Transplantation Society is pleased to disseminate the list of speakers, topics and the actual powerpoint presentations that stimulated discussion at the November Santander Transplant Summit “Towards Global Convergence in Transplantation: Sufficiency, Transparency and Oversight”, organized by the Organización Nacional de Trasplantes (ONT), under the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Peruse through the agenda to see the interesting topics debated and click on any presentation title to download and view what was presented to stimulate discussion.

Integrating input from the discussions, manuscripts are being prepared around the four main themes:

  • Why transplantation should be a priority in the health-care agenda and how can transplantation contribute to attaining the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
  • Donation and transplantation: challenges and way forward
  • Innovation in the donation and clinical application of Substances of Human Origin (SoHO): Cells & tissues
  • Ethical challenges and the way forward to implement the WHO Guiding Principles

Invasive fungal infections are associated with high morbidity in solid organ transplant recipients. Risk factor modification may help with preventative efforts. Organ donors supported by extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) have historically been considered high-risk and are judiciously utilized. This study examines transplant outcomes using renal allografts from donors supported on ECMO for nondonation purposes.
Scandiatransplant Exchange Program (STEP): Development and Results From an International Kidney Exchange Program
Kidney transplant candidates may be incompatible with their intended living donors because of the presence of antibodies against HLA and/or ABO. To increase the possibility of finding an acceptable kidney donor for these patients, the Scandiatransplant Exchange Program (STEP) program within Scandiatransplant was launched in 2019.
