After Completing Paediatric Hepatology and Gastroenterology training in UK, Moved to south India and set up a new unit to support Paediatric Liver transplant services at The Gleneagles Global Hospital, Chennai. With in four years of inception the unit became the largest Pediatric liver transplant unit in India. In 2015, Dr Naresh Shanmugam was promoted as Clinical Director for Institute of Advanced paediatrics where he was instrumental in setting up comprehensive pediatric multiorgan transplant program. In 2018 he moved to Dr Rela Institute & Medical Centre, Chennai, India a newly built multi-speciality hospital and set-up the Women & Children division including multiorgan transplant program. In 2019 , With more than 100 paediatric liver transplants/ year the Paediatric liver transplant program at Dr Rela Insitute & Medical centre has become one of the largest Paediatric transplant program in the world. Dr. Nazia Selzner is a Transplant Hepatologist and Medical Director of the Living Donor Liver Transplantation at the Ajmera Transplant Center, University Health Network, and Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto. She is also Scientist at the Institute for Medical Science (IMS) in Toronto, Canada. Dr Selzner graduated from Medical School at the University of Paris VII, France and completed her Gastroenterology training in France. She completed her PhD in 2003 at the University of Paris VII, France, after four years of research fellowship at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC and at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. Her research interest is in on mechanism of ischemia/reperfusion injury of the liver. Her clinical research is focused on increasing access to liver transplantation and LDLT. She is recipient of numerous national and international awards and has published extensively in the area of living organ donation, transplantation and reperfusion injury. She is the current President-Elect of the International Liver Transplantation Society (ILTS).

Dr. Adams is an adult and pediatric transplant surgeon at University of Colorado and Children’s Hospital of Colorado. She attended the University of Michigan (Go Blue!) for undergraduate training and then Wayne State Medical School. She completed her general surgery and fellowship training at University of Colorado and was recruited to stay on as faculty. Her passion is increasing access to organs for patients in underserved communities.

Stuart J. Knechtle, M.D. is the William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of Surgery at Duke University School of Medicine and serves as Executive Director of the Duke Transplant Center. He graduated from Princeton University and obtained is M.D. from Cornell University. He trained in surgery at Duke, and in transplantation at University of Wisconsin. He was the Ray D. Owen Professor of Surgery at University of Wisconsin and then Transplant Chief at Emory and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. He returned to Duke in 2015, and his research studies B cell immunity in transplantation.

Ahmed Elsabbagh, MD, MS, MRCS, PhD is an Associate Professor, Transplant, Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) and Gastrointestinal surgeon at Gastrointestinal Surgery and Liver Transplantation Center, Mansoura University, Egypt, one of the top centers in Living Donor Liver Transplantation. Formerly, he served as an Associate Professor, Multi-Organ Transplant and HPB surgeon at St. Vincent hospital, Indianapolis, USA. He is an American Board of Surgery certified. He is an active member in many international and national transplant and HPB surgery societies, the president of Donate Life Egypt, vice president of the Egyptian Liver Transplant Society, a member of Living Donation Committee in American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS), a member of Education & Scholarship Committee in International Liver Transplant Society and a member of Royal College of Surgeons of England. Oya M. Andacoglu, MD, is a board-certified liver, kidney, and pancreas transplantation surgeon specializing in living and deceased donor liver transplantation for adult and pediatric patients. Dr. Andacoglu is an assistant professor of surgery and serves as the Surgical Director of the Living Donor Liver Transplant Program in the Division of Transplantation and Advanced Hepatobiliary Surgery at the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine at the University of Utah.

She completed her general surgery residency at the University of Wisconsin, followed by a multi-organ transplant and hepatobiliary surgery fellowship at MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute in Washington, D.C. In addition, she spent two years in Turkey exclusively in adult and pediatric living donor liver transplantation. She is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery (ABS) for general surgery and holds an American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS) certification for adult and pediatric liver, kidney, pancreas, intestine transplantation, and hepatobiliary surgery.

Dr. Andacoglu is an active member and serves as chair or member of several committees at the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS), American Society of Transplantation (AST) International Liver Transplant Society (ILTS), and the American College of Surgeons (ACS). Her research focuses on living and deceased donor liver transplantation for adult and pediatric patients

Jessica Callear was the living donor to her daughter Hazel who was born with Biliary Atresia. Hazel was transplanted at 10 months of age at Nemours in Wilmington, Delaware and continues to follow with their program. Jessica became a member of PFEP in hopes to continue to help improve the care of pediatric liver transplant families. In addition, she also works in a clinical setting as a coordinator and provider in a bariatric medicine and surgical program where she is also working to improve the health of those with obesity.

Dr. Cara Heuser is a maternal fetal medicine and complex family planning specialist in Salt Lake City, Utah. She is a two-time non-directed organ donor and has a particular interest in transplant and pregnancy. She is a mother of two teenagers.

I currently serve as a Nurse Scientist in the Department of Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) at Stanford Medicine Children’s Health (SMCH). From January 2020-July 2023 I held the position of Director of the Department of Nursing Research at SMCH. I hold academic appointments as a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Stanford School of Medicine and Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California San Francisco School of Nursing. I am also a proud member of the Western Institute of Nursing serving as the current President (2022-2024) and was inducted into the Western Academy of Nursing in April 2023. I have served as a pediatric nurse for over 30 years and throughout my professional career have worked in the pediatric intensive care nurse at the University of California San Francisco, served as a liver transplant coordinator at Stanford Children’s Hospital, and worked for the Immunology Group at Novartis Pharmaceutical Company in Tokyo, Japan. My Stanford affiliations include participating as a voting member on the Stanford IRB, serving as the Course Director for a Qualitative Methods Course in the Stanford School of Medicine, and collaborating as a member of the Pediatric Transplant Center as the Independent Donor Advocate for liver and kidney transplant. As a nurse scientist, I mentor clinicians on various research topics. My passion is focused on the adolescent young adult and the impact living liver donation has on them and their families. Throughout my career, I have been dedicated to creating a healthy healing environment for patients and families.
