CTRMS Webinar - Innovations in Cardiac Bioengineering and Regeneration

0.0 - Innovations in Cardiac Bioengineering and Regeneration: The Path Towards Regenerative Cardiac Transplantation

Presenter: Atta Behfar, Wolfram-Hubertus Zimmermann, , ,
Authors: Atta Behfar, Wolfram-Hubertus Zimmermann, Doris Taylor, David Lott, Giuseppe Orlando

Overview

Dr. Behfar will discuss theranostics use of exosomes in cardiovascular medicine

Dr. Zimmermann will discuss advances in tissue engineered heart repair.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the role of exosome-based theranostics in cardiovascular disease, including applications in myocardial infarction, heart failure, transplant rejection, and organ preservation.
  • Explain translational strategies for regenerative therapeutics, including cell-free and cell-based platforms advancing toward early-phase clinical trials.
  • Identify emerging innovations to expand the heart transplant pool, including ex vivo organ preservation, HLA modification, and exosome-induced resilience to ischemia–reperfusion injury.
  • Discuss the current status of engineered heart muscle (EHM) allografts as a treatment option in patients with advanced heart failure.
  • Illustrate how cardiac engineering may complement cardiac replacement strategies.
