Tanya Aramyan

Armenia

I am Dr. Tanya Aramyan, a nephrologist from Yerevan, Armenia, holding an MD from Yerevan State Medical University, class of 2019. My primary objective through the ISN Fellowship is to deepen my expertise in kidney transplantation and nephrology, with the goal of establishing a deceased-donor transplantation program in Armenia. I wish to apply my achieved knowledge and skills for not only in my primary institution, but also in my home country.

Do you expect that your training will influence any of the following renal services in your home country?

I plan to actively invest in initiatives aimed at improving the quality of clinical nephrology and transplant medicine in my country. As a priority, I intend to expand the implementation of protocol biopsies in kidney transplant recipients, enabling earlier detection of subclinical graft pathology and timely therapeutic intervention. In parallel, I aim to establish regular nephropathology meetings in close collaboration with histopathologists to enhance clinicopathological correlation and multidisciplinary decision-making.

Furthermore, I plan enhance patient and public education on cadaveric organ transplantation and collaborate with colleagues to improve waiting list organization for patients with chronic kidney disease. I will advocate for the availability of advanced immunological diagnostics, including Luminex technology, as well as access to essential immunosuppressive medications at no cost to patients, in order to ensure evidence-based and equitable transplant care. Finally, I plan to actively disseminate the knowledge gained during my fellowship by organizing professional meetings, case discussions, and educational sessions with colleagues, thereby promoting continuous medical education and collaborative practice.

During my fellowship at Sanatorio Allende, I was warmly received by the medical and administrative staff, who consistently demonstrated a high level of professionalism and collegiality. The team provided detailed insights into clinical decision-making, transplant protocols, and the organizational structure of their transplant service.

I worked closely with residents and senior physicians, actively participating in the assessment and management of new transplant candidates. My clinical training included exposure to cadaveric-donor kidney transplantation, allowing me to gain a thorough understanding of the Argentine transplant waiting list system and the national regulatory framework overseeing organ allocation and transplantation.

I observed desensitization protocols in highly sensitized patients and became familiar with current immunological and therapeutic strategies. Furthermore, I attended all multidisciplinary pre-transplant meetings and participated in outpatient transplant follow-up clinics, which significantly enhanced my clinical knowledge and interdisciplinary perspective.

This fellowship was a highly productive and enriching experience. I am sincerely grateful to the entire team for their mentorship, support, and commitment to excellence in patient care.
