Augusto Cesar Santos Jr., MD, PhD, FISN, FASN, MBA, is an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at Faculdade Ciências Médicas and a clinical nephrologist at Hospital das Clínicas of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Brazil.
Dr. Santos Jr. holds a Master’s degree (2011) and a PhD (2016) in Health Sciences from UFMG, where his research explored bone mineral disorders in CKD and the genetic basis of CAKUT. In 2019, he received the Building Capacity Bursary from the Nuffield Department of Primary Care at the University of Oxford. His commitment to global kidney health education was recognized with the ISN Mentorship Award in 2021 and the Ambassador Shield in 2022. He completed his MBA at Imperial College London in 2024.
Dr. Santos Jr. is the former Chair of the ISN Education Social Media Initiative and currently serves on the ISN Latin America Regional Board, the ISN Advocacy Working Group, and the World Kidney Day Joint Steering Committee. He is also an Editorial Fellow of the Transplantation journal and a member of the ISN Transplantation Working Group.
He is presently a postdoctoral fellow specializing in kidney transplantation for hypersensitized patients.
