This document includes, written by each country delegation, the summary of action plans resulting from the final working session at the meeting, followed by details and comments written shortly thereafter. It also contains a Summary of Action Plan Priorities in a table format to give an overview for discussion and finally some comments from the faculty. At the end we have included a photo album of all participants at the meeting with their contact details in order to facilitate further communication. Missing photo means that the member of the delegation could not make it to the meeting.
We thank all NFPs and their delegations for their pivotal contributions.
The Transplantation Society (TTS) has participated in the design, review, and beta testing for the CDST. TTS has officially endorsed this clinical decision support tool.
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is one of the most common viral infections in the post-transplant setting, including solid organ transplant (SOT) and hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT). CMV conveys a high risk of complications including graft loss, morbidity, and mortality. There are currently no FDA approved therapies for CMV after transplantation and those that are currently in use have serious side effects including kidney and bone marrow toxicity. Data from RMEI medical education programs, as well as information gleaned from CMV experts including TTS Education Committee Member, Camille Kotton MD, show that clinicians who treat CMV in transplant patients need guidance regarding which CMV therapies to choose and how to incorporate a new antiviral (maribavir) in clinical practice.
The Resistant/Refractory Cytomegalovirus Clinical Decision Support Tool (CDST) has been built using the algorithm of the Third International Consensus Guidelines on the Management of Cytomegalovirus in Solid-organ Transplantation by Camille Kotton, MD et al.
This activity is intended for clinicians practicing in transplantation, infectious disease, and nephrology.
This activity is meant to improve clinician’s identification of resistant/refractory cytomegalovirus (CMV) and update them on newly approved treatment strategies for resistant/refractory CMV in solid organ transplant (SOT) patients.
CMV is one of the most common opportunistic infections affecting solid organ transplant recipients (SOTRs), conveying higher risks of complications, graft loss, morbidity, and mortality. Treatment options for CMV are limited, have similar mechanisms of action, suffer from cross-resistance, and have serious toxicities. Until recently, no treatment option was available in the resistant/refractory setting. This workshop, developed in collaboration with The Transplantation Society (TTS) and Dr. Camille Kotton, MD, FIDSA, FAST, will take you through a CMV primer and then move on to discuss cases submitted by your peers from transplant centers across the United States.
