TTS-WTGF Webinar on COVID-19 Vaccines for Transplant Recipients

Objective:


The objective of this webinar is to provide transplant recipients and their families with the most up to date information on the different COVID vaccinations available to them.

Description:


Speakers have been chosen from different regions of the world to ensure relevance for all recipients. An important section will cover the vaccine experience so far in transplant populations.

Steve Chadban is a clinician scientist with interests in transplant immunology, immunosuppressive drugs and outcomes after transplantation, including diabetes and CVD. He is a busy clinician and Director of Renal Medicine and Transplantation at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Clinical Professor at University of Sydney, Australia. He has published over 200 papers, is a Past President of TSANZ and a past Councillor of the TTS.

Paul Harden joined the Oxford Kidney Unit and Transplant Centre in 2002 and has continued to pursue his interest in transition, having established joint clinics with Great Ormond Street and Evelina Children's Hospitals in London. He is clinical advisor to the National Health Service in the UK on adolescent transition and young adult services in patients with ESRD. He is interested in malignancy post-transplantation and the impact of targeted immunosuppression reduction. He is currently working on practical strategies to minimise immunosuppression post-transplantation using novel cellular therapeutic approaches including working with a European Consortium on the ONE Study and more recently a Phase II trial of T regulatory cell therapy in transplantation. He is a strong supporter of the promotion of exercise and mental well-being post-transplantation, and is the Chairman of the annual British Transplant Games and a Trustee Board member of the World Transplant Games Federation.

Camille Nelson Kotton MD, FIDSA, FAST is the clinical director of the Transplant Infectious Disease and Immunocompromised Host Program at the Massachusetts General Hospital, and Associate Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts. She was chair of The Infectious Disease Community of Practice of The American Society of Transplantation (2012-2018). From 2007-2013, she was the president of The Transplant Infectious Disease Section of The Transplantation Society. Highlights of her time as president include the development of international guidelines on CMV management after solid organ transplant, published in Transplantation (2010, 2013, 2018). She is the first transplant infectious disease specialist to be a councilor of The Transplantation Society (2020). Her clinical interests include cytomegalovirus, donor-derived infections, zoonoses, and travel and tropical medicine in the transplant setting. She is a new member of the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) and is involved in national decisions regarding COVID-19 vaccines. Dr. Kotton is a past member of the Disease Transmission Advisory Committee of The United Network for Organ Sharing, and has expertise in donor derived infections.

Dr. Pierrotti is an Infectious Disease physician graduated in State University of Campinas (Unicamp) in 1993. M.Sc and Ph.D. in Infectious Diseases at University of São Paulo, Brazil, in 2004. She is currently an assistant physician at the Kidney Transplant Unit and leader member of Infectious Diseases on Immunocompromised Host Group at the Hospital das Clínicas, School of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (HCFMUSP). She is the Vice coordinator of ID Committee of the Brazilian Association of Organ Transplantation (ABTO) and is member of the Brazilian Standing Committee on Biosurveillance. Her research is directed towards epidemiology, prevention and management of infections in immunocompromised host, particularly solid organ transplant and kidney transplantation.
