Marcelo Cantarovich, MD (Buenos Aires, Argentina), nephrology/transplant fellow (Paris, France), FRCPC (Canada), is Professor of Medicine, and Associate Director (Multi-Organ Transplant Program) at McGill University (Montreal, Canada). He currently serves as TTS President. His research focuses on multi-organ transplantation, immunopharmacology and renal protection strategies. He has published over 140 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals. He is past President of the Canadian Society of Transplantation (CST); chaired/co-chaired the TTS and the CST Education Committee, CST Fellows’ Symposium and CST Congress, the AST Clinical Trials Symposium, TTS Post-Graduate Course (2010, 2016, 2018, 2020). He is the Chair of the TTS 2022 Congress in Buenos Aires. His primary focus is continuing education for young and established TTS members and increase global access to transplantation.

Marti Manyalich

Chair of the TTS Anesthesia and Critical Care Committee

MD, PhD, anesthesiologist, is Assessor on Transplantation, Medical Direction, Hospital Clinic, Barcelona; Associate Professor, Medical School, University of Barcelona; and President of the TPM-DTI Foundation, Past President ISODP-TTS and TTS European Councilor. He created the deceased and living donation program in the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona in 1985and the TSF multi-tissue bank in 1994. He is an expert in organ and tissue donation, training donor procurement, and tissue banking at national and international level. Among the most important positions he has occupied, he was the former president of the European Transplant Coordinators Organization (ETCO, the former vice president of the European Association of Tissue Banks (EATB) and, from 2015 until September 2017, he was the President of the International Society for Organ Donation and Procurement (ISODP). He is currently European Councilor of The Transplantation Society (TTS) for 2018-2022 and Chair of the TTS Anesthesia and Critical Care Committee (2020-2022).

Presentation: Anesthetic specific pre - & intraoperative support of donors & recipients. transplant candidate’s assessment & optimization

Dr. Annabel Blasi Ibañez is a consultant in the department of anaesthesiology at the Hospital Clinic in Barcelona. She practices Anesthesia in Hepatobiliary Surgery and Liver Transplant.  She has a research fellowship in Surgical Laboratory Transplant Research from the University of California,  San Francisco (UCSF). Her mentor is Dr. Niemann. She has a research stay at the Surgical Research Laboratory and Section of Hepatobiliary Surgery and Liver Transplantation at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG). The Netherlands. Her mentor is Prof T. Lisman.

Dr. Blasi’s field of interests are liver surgery and liver transplantation, coagulation in liver disease and thromboelastrmetry.

She is a research member of it he section of liver transplantation and graft viability section.  IDIBAPS (Institute Biomedical Research Aguistí Pi Sunyé), a member of the Working Group appointed by the National Transplant Organization to develop the Guidelines for Perioperative management of liver transplant recipient  from donor after cardiac deathNational Health Department of Spain, Vice Chair of the Anesthesia and Critical Care Committee ILTS (International Liver Transplant Society) from 2017, Council of LICAGE (Liver Intensive Care  Group for the study of the Liver Disease) from 2016, Committee of Anesthesia and Critical Care Commitee of TTS (The Transplant Society) from 2021.

Fayez E. Alshamsi, MBBS, DABIM, FRCPC

Fayez Alshamsi is an Assistant Professors of Internal Medicine at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, United Arab Emirates University (UAEU). After earning his medical degree from UAEU in 2007, he underwent postgraduate training in Internal Medicine, Critical Care Medicine and Neurocritical Care at McMaster University, Ontario, Canada from 2009 to 2015. He provides clinical services as a consultant in Internal Medicine and Critical Care Medicine at Tawam Hospital, Al Ain. He completed International Master in Donation and Transplantation of Organs, Tissues and Cells, University of Barcelona, Spain in June 2019. He also serves on the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Committee in the UAE as Deputy Chairman.


Marian Irazabal, MD, MSc

Presentation: End of life care and death by neurological criteria standardization practices & proactive donor management within the ICU.

Marian Irazabal, MD, MSc graduated from Medical Faculty at the Universidad Central in Venezuela in 2007. Specialized in Intensive Care Medicine at the Hospital Universitario La Paz (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain) in 2014. Since then, have been practicing as a Critical Care Consultant and Transplant Coordinator in both public and private areas in Barcelona in Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujol, Hospital Universitario de Catalunya and Consorci Corporació Sanitària Parc Taulí de Sabadell alternatively. Master degree after obtaining both the 12th International Master in Donation of Organs, Tissues and Cells for Transplantation diploma issued by the Universitat de Barcelona and the Expert in Out-of-Hospital Emergencies for Physicians diploma issued by the Universidad CEU Cardenal Herrera in 2015. Currently working as Project Coordinator at Donation and Transplantation Institute (DTI Foundation) dedicated to the development of international training and cooperation programs in the Donation and Transplantation field.

Marco Sacchi, MD

Presentation:Indications & outcomes related to extracorporeal life support in patients who suffered cardiac arrest (out of hospital Setting) and its role in a DCD type 2 program.

Dr Marco Sacchi is an anesthesiologist and intensivist, working on organ donation since his medicine degree in 2004. He collaborated in the birth of the first Italian uDCD program in Pavia and worked at one of the first cDCD programs in Italy at Niguarda Hospital in Milan. He attended the International Master in Donation and Transplantation of Organs, Tissues and Cells, held in Barcelona in 2017-2018. After the Master he started his collaboration with TPM-DTI Foundation participating as a teacher to courses of various level around the world.
