4.2 ‑Carbapenemases and Organ Transplantation
Costi D. Sifri, Charlottesville, VA, USA
Carbapenem resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) have recently emerged as challenging hospital-associated pathogens worldwide, and solid organ transplant recipients may be at particularly high risk for infection by these problematic multidrug resistant pathogens. This session will review the evolving epidemiology of CRE in transplantation, describe risk factors for infection, and discuss possible treatment and prevention strategies for CRE infection following transplantation and their limitations.
