Infection Prophylaxis for Induction and Rescue Therapies

2. Describe both routine and specialized pre-transplant evaluation techniques to enhance the post-transplant safety
3. Discuss vaccine techniques that can be used to provide an additional level of protection against infection

Abstract: Solid organ transplant recipients are more vulnerable to infection. Numerous techniques can be employed to reduce their risk of infection, both pre- and post-transplant, ranging from medications to better screening to optimizing vaccinations. Composite tissue transplant recipients have had high rates of CMV infection and complications; with optimal management, this risk can be significantly mitigated. During this talk, Dr. Kotton will discuss methods to prevent (and optimally manage) infection, thus decreasing morbidity, mortality, and enhancing overall transplant outcomes.
