The Medawar Prize

The Medawar Prize, named after Society co-founder Sir Peter Medawar, is recognized as the world's highest dedicated award for the most outstanding contributions in the field of transplantation. The Medawar Prize has been awarded at each of our Society's biennial Congresses since 1990.
The award recognizes outstanding investigators whose contributions have had a profound influence on the field of organ transplantation. The Medawar Prize is universally considered to be commensurate with the most outstanding world prize for scientific achievement.

TTS Thomas Starzl Innovation Award

The TTS Starzl Innovation Award is named after Tom Starzl who was best known for his contributions to the field of organ transplantation, and often referred to as the “father of transplantation”. The award recognizes individuals who, though advanced and original work, have contributed significantly to transplantation, thereby reflecting the spirit pioneered by Dr. Starzl.
Application Deadline: March 18, 2024

TTS Recognition Awards

These awards recognize individuals who have made a major international impact in the field of transplantation. The awards are given out at each International Congress of The Transplantation Society and carry a monetary award of USD $2,000 each. Applications are being accepted for following awards: Outstanding Achievement Transplantation Science (Basic), Outstanding Achievement in Transplantation Science (Clinical) Outstanding Achievement in Transplantation Science (Developing Country), and Mentorship or Education and Training in Transplantation.

Distinct Molecular Processes Mediate Donor-derived Cell-free DNA Release From Kidney Transplants in Different Disease States
Among all biopsies in the Trifecta-Kidney Study (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT04239703), elevated plasma donor-derived cell-free DNA (dd-cfDNA) correlated most strongly with molecular antibody–mediated rejection (AMR) but was also elevated in other states: T cell–mediated rejection (TCMR), acute kidney injury (AKI), and some apparently normal biopsies. The present study aimed to define the molecular correlates of plasma dd-cfDNA within specific states.
Impact of Median MELD at Transplant Minus 3 National Policy on Quality of Transplanted Livers for Patients With and Without Hepatocellular Carcinoma
Patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) have been overprioritized in the deceased donor liver allocation system. The United Network for Organ Sharing adopted a policy in May 2019 that limited HCC exception points to the median Model for End-Stage Liver Disease at transplant in the listing region minus 3. We hypothesized this policy change would increase the likelihood to transplant marginal quality livers into HCC patients.

Medical and Surgical Management of the Failed Pancreas Transplant
Among all biopsies in the Trifecta-Kidney Study (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT04239703), elevated plasma donor-derived cell-free DNA (dd-cfDNA) correlated most strongly with molecular antibody–mediated rejection (AMR) but was also elevated in other states: T cell–mediated rejection (TCMR), acute kidney injury (AKI), and some apparently normal biopsies. The present study aimed to define the molecular correlates of plasma dd-cfDNA within specific states.
Factors Associated With Sinoatrial Reinnervation After Heart Transplantation
Factors associated with sympathetic and parasympathetic sinoatrial reinnervation after heart transplantation (HTx) are inadequately studied.

TTS 2024 - Awards and Abstracts

The Transplantation Society, the Indian Society of Organ Transplantation and La Renon acknowledges the contribution of basic and clinical science to the field of transplantation by offering Mentee-Mentor awards.

The TTS-ISOT La Renon International Basic and Clincial Sciences Mentee-Mentor Awards’ aim is to encourage young investigator to submit their research to TTS 2024 and help cover expenses to attend the Congress in Istanbul. For more information about the award and eligibility, visit our website at www.tts2024.org/awards/isot-mentee-mentor

Award Application Deadline: April 26, 2024

TTS 2024 Call for Abstract Submission Deadline: March 18, 2024

International Basic and Translational Science Mentee-Mentor Awards

Submitting an abstract to the TTS 2024 Congress offers a platform to showcase groundbreaking research, connect with global experts, and contribute to advancements in transplantation medicine, fostering collaboration and influencing the field's future direction. Submission deadline: March 18, 2024.

Women in Transplantation 2024 Research Grants

WIT is delighted to announce that requests for applications are now open for the 2024-2026 Research Fellowship Grants for Research in Gender and Sex in Transplantation.

This will be the fourth year that we are offering research fellowships in sex and gender in solid organ transplantation. These fellowships will support the next generation of scientists, furthering our understanding of the importance of sex and gender in transplantation. This is a growing field of interest and the more we learn the closer we are to applying these findings to clinical care to benefit patients and donors.

TTS Call for Nominations

We are now accepting nominations for three (3) Officer positions and nine (9) Councilors-at-large positions representing the Regions.
