A Risk Score Using a Cell-based Assay Predicts Long-term Over-immunosuppression Events in Kidney Transplant Recipients
Infections and cancer are major causes of premature death in organ recipients. However, there have been few advances in personalized immunosuppressive therapy. We previously reported that a cell-based assay measuring CD14+16+tumor necrosis factor-α+ monocytes after peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) incubation with Epstein-Barr virus peptides has a high sensitivity for detecting over-immunosuppression (OIS) events in kidney recipients in the short term. We aimed to develop a risk score for predicting long-term events.

Proteomic phenotyping can provide insights into rejection pathophysiology, novel biomarkers, and therapeutic targets.

Balanced Electrolyte Solutions Versus 0.9% Saline for Kidney Transplantation: An Updated Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
Perioperative intravenous fluids are administered to kidney transplant recipients to maintain hemodynamic stability and graft perfusion; however, the ideal fluid remains uncertain. Although 0.9% saline (saline) is commonly used, its high chloride content causes hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis and may increase the risks of delayed graft function (DGF) and hyperkalemia. Balanced electrolyte solutions (BES) have a more physiological chloride concentration and may reduce these risks. Previous meta-analyses found insufficient evidence to compare BES with saline for these outcomes; however, new studies have recently been published. In this updated review, we compared the effects of BES with saline on the risk of DGF and hyperkalemia in kidney transplantation.
Clinical Outcomes and Donor-specific Antibody Rebound 5 y After Kidney Transplant Enabled by Imlifidase Desensitization
Imlifidase is an IgG-cleaving endopeptidase conditionally approved in Europe for desensitization of highly sensitized patients before kidney transplantation. We present 5-y outcomes and donor-specific antibody (DSA) levels for clinical trial participants from a single site who received imlifidase for desensitization before incompatible transplantation (NCT02790437).

SPLIT 2025 Abstract Submission Deadline - Feb 5, 2025

TTS Scientific Congress Awards

TTS will be supporting the meeting by providing Scientific Congress awards for TTS Members to participate. The awards are designed to help offset expenses incurred to attend meetings and are awarded based on the scientific merit of applicants.
To be eligible you must submit an abstract AND be an eligible TTS Member. Eligible members are trainees/fellows/PhD students, Allied Health Professionals (nurses, psychologist, pharmacist, nutritionist, etc) or Residents of a Lower to Middle Income Country (LMIC).
SPLIT is also offering awards:
  • SPLIT-TTS Travel Grants for Trainees, Junior Faculty, and Multi-disciplinary Team Members
  • Albireo, an Ipsen Company, and Mirum Travel Grants for Medical Students, Pediatrics Residents, Surgery Residents and Pediatric Gastroenterology fellows identifying as Underrepresented in Medicine
