TTS IPTA TID Position Statement on Vaccines in Transplant Recipients

The Transplantation Society (TTS), The International Pediatric Transplant Association (IPTA) and the Transplant Infectious Disease (TID) section reaffirms our strong support for the role of vaccines in protecting the health and survival of organ transplant candidates and recipients. Immunization is an effective and important tool of preventative care against infectious diseases, particularly for individuals who are immunocompromised due to solid organ transplantation.

Transplantation Journal - Social Media Content

Two brand-new open access papers on xenotransplantation are now available in Transplantation. Gain insights into the science, challenges, and future clinical potential. Free for everyone – no paywall, just knowledge. Don’t miss these must-reads for anyone in transplantation science!
International Xenotransplantation Association (IXA) Position Paper on Kidney Xenotransplantation
Porcine kidney xenotransplantation for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) has reached the stage of clinical testing following major advances in donor pig genetic modifications and effective immunosuppressive strategies through decades of rigorous translational research. Reports of pig kidney xenograft survival beyond 1 year post-transplant in nonhuman primate (NHP) models justify optimism for its potential as an alternative to allotransplantation.
The International Human Xenotransplantation Inventory: Current Data and Future Directions
The global demand for organ transplantation outpaces supply, necessitating innovative solutions. Xenotransplantation, using animal organs, cells, and tissues, is a promising solution to address the organ shortage. The World Health Organization and the International Xenotransplantation Association collaboratively established an online inventory in 2006 (www.humanxenotransplant.org) to catalog human xenotransplantation practices.

Dynamic Lactate Clearance Patterns During Normothermic Machine Perfusion Predict Posttransplant Biliary Complications in Donation After Circulatory Death Liver Transplantation
Normothermic machine perfusion (NMP) enables real-time assessment of liver graft viability through various biomarkers. Although lactate clearance during NMP has been associated with graft outcomes, its dynamic patterns and relationship with posttransplant biliary complications (PTBCs) remain poorly understood. We sought to evaluate whether dynamic lactate clearance patterns during NMP could predict PTBCs in both donations after circulatory death (DCD) and brain death (DBD) liver transplantation (LT).
Long-term Outcome After Nonvascularized Rectus Fascia Transplantation in Solid Organ Transplantation: A Global Multicenter IIRTA Survey
Abdominal wall (AW) closure after solid organ transplantation (SOT) is challenging in case of loss of abdominal domain and/or large-for-size grafts. Primary closure is crucial to avoid open abdomen-associated morbidity and mortality. Several techniques have been developed to address this challenge, including nonvascularized rectus fascia transplantation (NVRF Tx). Long-term outcome is missing.

ISN-TTS Collaborative Programs

Fellowship Training

The ISN and TTS join forces to support the training of young physicians from low resource areas receiving hands-on training in advanced host institutions to acquire state of-the-art knowledge in transplantation
The training focuses on providing the skills and knowledge specifically required by the home institution. ISN-TTS Fellowship trainings can be long (6-12 months) or short term (3-6 months).

Application Deadline: October 1

Sister Transplant Centers Program

The ISN-TTS Sister Transplant Centers Program is a joint partnership set up to create new kidney transplant centers and develop existing kidney transplant programs in emerging economies.
Any two transplant centers can form a partnership if at least one center is from a resource-low country (LIC, LMIC, UMIC as per World Bank List of Economies) and the centers are chaired/run by an ISN or a TTS member.

Application Deadline: October 15
