Transplantation Journal Highlights

The Relentless Progression of Metabolic Dysfunction–associated Steatotic Liver Disease in Liver Transplantation in Spain
Metabolic dysfunction–associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is increasingly recognized as a significant indication for liver transplantation (LT) in North America. Yet data on its impact in other countries, such as Spain, remain limited. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence and trajectory of MASLD-related LT in Spain and compare these findings with broader national data and international data sets.
Global Outcomes of Open Versus Laparoscopic Versus Robotic Donor Hepatectomy: A Prospective Study From the International LDLT Registry (LDLTregistry.org)
Living donor liver transplantation is a critical solution to the global organ shortage. Comparisons of donor short-term outcomes according to the surgical approach are limited to a few single-center retrospective studies. This study aimed to evaluate the short-term outcomes of open, laparoscopic, and robotic surgical approaches to living donor hepatectomy using data from the prospective International Living Donor Liver Transplantation Registry (LDLTregistry.org).

Development and Validity of a Novel Transplant Operative Assessment Tool
Assessment tools in surgical education help identify improvement areas for trainees. We developed and present validity evidence for a novel Transplant Operative Assessment Tool to optimize technical feedback for surgical trainees in transplantation.
Tocilizumab Treatment for Microvascular Inflammation and Chronic Active Antibody-mediated Rejection in Kidney Transplantation
Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is an important driver of humoral immunity and a target for treatment of antibody-mediated rejection (AMR) in kidney transplantation. Data on IL-6 inhibition for treatment of AMR are mixed and their efficacy remains inconclusive. In this retrospective observational study, we investigated the association of monthly tocilizumab infusions with the trajectory of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) among kidney transplant patients with histologic features of chronic active AMR.
