10727.2 - Reviewing and Publishing in Big Journals - Both Sides of the Fence

Presenter: Edward Geissler, Carla Baan, Jeremy R. Chapman, , ,
Authors: Edward Geissler, Carla Baan, Jeremy R. Chapman, Jennifer Li

Outline

Authors usually have guidelines for the overall structure and content of manuscripts, but what elevates the quality of papers for editors and reviewers? Editors of transplantation focused journals will discuss this and provide insights into what works - and what doesn’t - to improve the chances of publication. Furthermore, many transplant professionals are asked to review papers but lack formal training and receive limited guidance for this job. The panel of editors will also discuss how they approach the task of reviewing papers and provide an overall structure or framework for this.

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand the key quality indicators and features of clinical and scientific research manuscripts sought by journal editors.
  2. Be familiar with strategies to improve the quality of research manuscripts.
  3. Develop a clearer understanding of the role of the reviewer and strategies to critique and provide constructive feedback to authors.
