Just Released - Transplantation Journal - April Issue

An issue packed with viruses! Firstly an update on where we are with CMV at present, pending the new consensus meeting on CMV due soon, as well as papers on cost-effectiveness of prophyaxis in BMT and the utility of Quantiferon testing. Then two articles on transplantation in people living with HIV, including lung transplantation experience. SARS-CoV-2 continues to be relevant, especially in the at-risk transplantation populations. There is data on long COVID and then two articles on the challenges - in Brazil and France, as well as further data on the relevance of T-cell responses to protection against new variants. Finally the effect of viruses causing early fungal infection. It seems that Transplant ID remains a great and important specialty!

Genetic Modulation: Future Trends Toward Graft Optimization During Machine Perfusion
Dynamic preservation methods such as normothermic, subnormothermic, and hypothermic machine perfusion circuits have emerged as viable alternatives to conventional static cold storage. These organ perfusion technologies serve as preservation methods and enable organ assessment, reconditioning, and repair before transplantation.
Representation of Women Authorship in the Top 5 Transplantation Journals in the United States
In the United States, only 13% of transplant surgeons are women. We evaluated gender distribution and trends of American authorship over the past 10 y in high-impact solid organ transplantation journals to gain insight into the current status of women authorship in transplantation.

Extracorporeal Photopheresis Reduces Fibrotic and Inflammatory Transcriptomic Biological Marker of Chronic Antibody-mediated Kidney Rejection
The benefit of extracorporeal photopheresis on the course of kidney transplant rejection is unknown. The aim of our study was to investigate the variations in transcriptomics on graft biopsies when extracorporeal photopheresis was used to treat chronic humoral rejection after kidney transplantation.
