The Efficacy of Ferroptosis Inhibition on Ischemia–Reperfusion Injury of Abdominal Organs: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
Solid organ transplantation is hampered by complications that arise after ischemia–reperfusion injury (IRI), a detrimental type of injury for which no adequate treatment options are available. Ferroptosis, an iron-dependent form of regulated cell death, is a major driver of IRI. This systematic review and meta-analysis summarizes the effects of pharmacological ferroptosis inhibition in abdominal organs in the setting of IRI. PubMed, Embase, Web of Science and Cochrane were searched for concepts “ferroptosis” and “IRI” in August 2023.
The Fourth International Consensus Guidelines on the Management of Cytomegalovirus in Solid Organ Transplantation
We are in the midst of a true modernization of the management of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection after organ transplantation. Numerous recent advances are the culmination of years of basic and translational research followed by rigorous clinical trials by the transplant community.

Incidental Cold Agglutinins in Lung Transplant Recipients
The relevance of cold agglutinins in lung transplantation (LTx) recipients is unclear. While there is typically no intentionally induced hypothermia, the cold preservation of organs could potentially lead to microvascular injury and vascular occlusion after implantation and reperfusion in the presence of cold agglutinins. This study aims to analyze the impact of cold agglutinins in lung transplant recipients on short- and long-term outcomes after LTx.
Machine Learning Prediction Model of Waitlist Outcomes in Patients with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis
Liver transplantation is essential for many people with primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC). People with PSC are less likely to receive a deceased donor liver transplant compared with other causes of chronic liver disease. This disparity may stem from the inaccuracy of the model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) in predicting waitlist mortality or dropout for PSC. The broad applicability of MELD across many causes comes at the expense of accuracy in prediction for certain causes that involve unique comorbidities. We aimed to develop a model that could more accurately predict dynamic changes in waitlist outcomes among patients with PSC while including complex clinical variables.

ITS 2025 Abstracts and Registration

Join us for the 2025 International Transplantation Science meeting (ITS 2025) and connect with the leading global transplantation community!

On behalf of AST, ESOT and TTS, we wish to extend to you a warm welcome to the 2025 International Transplant Science meeting in San Diego, California USA.

This is the fourth of the ITS tri-society meeting series in collaboration with ESOT and TTS. This meeting will provide a wonderful opportunity for transplant researchers to learn from outstanding international speakers while visiting this stunningly beautiful region of the world.

The ITS 2025 will provide a forum for presentations and discussions of cutting-edge basic and translational science in and beyond transplantation. This meeting will not only serve as an international platform for scientific discussions on the latest ground-breaking discoveries in the field but will also provide an excellent opportunity to present your own work to the scientific community. We hope this will allow for the exchange of new ideas and establishment of collaborative work between senior scientists, young professionals and early-stage researchers.

Abstract Submission Deadline: June 15, 2025

Women in Transplantation Research Grant for Indigenous Populations

This grant will provide funding of up to $20,000 USD per grant to support research focused on sex and gender equity, advocacy, and health in solid organ transplantation amongst Indigenous peoples globally. This may include basic, clinical, or translational research. The recipient must be a clinician, health policy administrator, social scientist, clinical and/or basic science researcher in solid organ transplantation or donation, and/or Indigenous health relating to solid organ transplant.
The applicant must identify a mentor with expertise in transplantation research, a demonstrated strong track record in Indigenous health research, and a proven commitment to supporting early-career researchers. The mentor should also be willing and able to actively guide the applicant in the design, execution, and successful completion of the proposed research project and build research capacity among Indigenous peoples.

Extended Application Deadline: June 1, 2025
